We Are the Movement

I was reading in Genesis chapter fifteen this morning about how God spoke to Abram (not yet called Abraham). God promised that He would protect him and give him a great reward.  Abram’s response seemed so sincere when he said, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son?  Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth.  You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.”  Abram had been promised all that he could have wanted, but with no children to pass it on to, it lacked meaning and purpose.  Without an heir, the promises would end with him.

As I read, I thought about how God, the Great King, wants His inheritance to continue on, just like Abram did.  God doesn’t want His name to ever come to an end, so He adopts each one who receives Him, as His very own son and daughter.  He makes us His children to receive His inheritance and carry on His name.  He gives us the privilege of becoming His family and clothes us in robes of righteousness.

The Holy Spirit showed me a picture – of beautiful mountains spread out before me and I sensed a movement like the force of thunder, or a great wind, rushing, advancing, and rolling over the mountains.  I sensed that we are the movement, moving through the earth, carrying His great name.  Moving, advancing, and expanding His family.  He wants us, His sons and daughters, to carry on what He started.  He allows us to be a part of the force that brings Him to the earth, and spreads His kingdom.

Let the movement, God’s people, respond with love and admiration and praise.  Let us begin to run, carrying His name on our lips…

Let us be like thunder that rolls over the earth.  We will declare your name, for we are Your children.  Your blood is running through us; You are our Father.  Holy are you Lord!  You’ve adopted us as your very own.  You send us forth, like great waves, declaring your amazing love.  You allow us to take part in giving the message of who You are to the world that’s searching.  Let us rise like the sun and shine for you.  Send us out to take bread to the hungry and water to the thirsty.  Let us rise on the wings of your Spirit and set the captives free.

“He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth– the LORD God Almighty is his name.” Amos 4:13
